ABOUT SONAR

Sonar is a mission-driven startup founded out of Stanford that is making mental health support more preventative and accessible. Our app uses AI to i) identify mental health challenges by analyzing social media and phone activity, ii) provide real-time support to students via chat (with no wait times!), and iii) help with navigation to resources or care.

In June, we raised our first funding round from venture firms such as Lightspeed, 500 Global, Peterson, and Alpine, along with several notable angel investors. In November, we launched our product with beta testers.

This is an opportunity to lead our AI strategy and development, and be a founding team member.

ROLE OVERVIEW

WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON

• Work with the founding team to refine and execute our product vision
• Develop, own and execute our AI strategy
• Partially automate our text-based interactions with young people, building an effective human-in-the-loop system that is engaging and applies clinical techniques
• Further improve our machine learning models to more accurately identify moments of support for young people
• Contribute to publishing research on our product

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• 5+ years of experience in AI and machine learning, particularly with LLM/, chat-based experiences and predictive modeling. Experience with clinical prompt engineering is a strong plus
• Strong background in software engineering and AI system design and deployment
• Track record of collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including non-technical stakeholders
• Familiarity with ethical considerations and data privacy in AI applications, especially in healthcare
• Passion for improving the mental health of young people
• Strong communicator with ability to work cross functionally

WHAT WE’D LIKE TO SEE

• Experience taking products (or major features) from concept to launch
• Experience in developing AI applications in mental health or related fields
• Experience in research and publishing in the field of AI or mental health
