ABOUT SONAR

Sonar (website) is a mission-driven startup founded out of Stanford that is making mental health support more preventative and accessible. Our app uses AI to i) identify mental health challenges by analyzing social media and phone activity, ii) provide real-time support to students via chat (with no wait times!), and iii) help with navigation to resources or care.

We raised our first funding round from venture firms such as Lightspeed, 500 Global, Peterson, and Alpine, along with several notable angel investors. We now support thousands of students across the United States.

This is an opportunity to lead the development of our data infrastructure and enable insights in various parts of the business.

ROLE OVERVIEW

WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON

• Own the data infrastructure for our platform, powering the capabilities that we are able to offer to our students
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand data requirements, build solutions, and evaluate results
• Monitor data quality to ensure the integrity of our product and derived insights
• Define metrics and operationalize our data into dashboards for both internal and external use cases
• Contribute to AI and modeling initiatives, including LLM research and predictive modeling

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• 5+ years experience with ETL and data pipeline management for complex datasets (SQL, DBT, Airflow)
• Strong background in software engineering (Python) and data systems
• Product-driven mindset to continuously identify data opportunities and implement solutions effectively
• Track record of collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including non-technical stakeholders
• Passion for improving the mental health of young people
• Strong communicator with ability to work cross functionally

WHAT WE’D LIKE TO SEE

• Experience translating complex business requirements into data models that lead to measurable outcomes
• Experience with data visualization and analytics with Tableau
• Experience with LLMs and/or chat-based applications
